| These fees occur at 3.5, 7.5 and 11.5 years from the patent date to keep it "maintained in force," to use the USPTO's terms. These fees are: $980 @ 3.5 years $2480.00 @ 7.5 years $4110.00 @ 11.5 years For everyone out there that thinks a patent is the end-all protection from having a marketable idea copied, the dollars associated with the entire process would have to be adjusted into the retail price of the end product. This would easily price the idea out of the relatively small Z32 market. All profit made from the idea would go towards paying for the patent and then mantaining it... no thanks. The cost of a patent simply cannot be justified for products made for this market.
